Best Sugar Cookies & Frosting Ever....at least I think so!

My ward is putting together a cookbook so I have been typing up some favorite recipes. I will post one daily or so until I run out!

Simple Sugar Cookies & Butter cream Frosting

Cookies:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
1 ¼ teaspoons baking powder

For Cookies:
Cream butter and sugar. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Add flour and baking powder in intervals. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Then roll out dough (between two pieces of waxed paper makes it easier) and use cookie cutters. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes.

Frosting:
½ cup butter, softened
½ cup shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups powder sugar
2 Tablespoons milk

For Frosting:
Cream butter and shortening. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well and scraping the bowl often. After all the sugar is mixed, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat until light and fluffy. Keep frosting covered with damp cloth until ready to use.
