Ooohhh!

The other day we received two packages in preparation of Spencer’s birthday this week. I was probably more excited than him, but that’s because he has never had a birthday before. I opened one box from my family out in Massachusetts, the presents were not yet wrapped and another box from Chad’s mom in Arizona, with the present wrapped. I took the neatly wrapped gift with a shiny red bow from the Styrofoam peanuts and announced to Spencer that this was a birthday present for him (mistake) then displayed it on the dining room table. He wanted the package so badly and through such a fit, I had to hide the box from his view and distract him with a few toys in the front room. During his nap I wrapped the gifts from my family and the pile of gifts from Chad and I that have been staking out in my bedroom corner. When I was finished, I lined all my poorly wrapped gifts (it is true, I fight with wrapping paper and lose) on the piano. Once Spencer was up from his nap it actually took awhile before he noticed the change to his stomping grounds. All at once I heard him chorusing “ooohhh!” He stood in admiration of the bright colors with his little hands stretched upward. I guess it must have been the power of the shiny bows that froze him to the carpet making him unable to move any closer. To my surprise he has not even attempted to get them then or since, not even a step closer.
